NORTEC 2008: TRUMPF Emphasizes Edge-Finishing

Ditzingen, January 23, 2008 – At Hamburg’s NORTEC trade show for manufacturing technology, visitors to the TRUMPF booth (hall A1, booth A1.419) can see and test the performance of various sheet metal power tools. The TKF beveller and the TKA deburrer are the focus of TRUMPF at this year’s show.

TRUMPF is going to shake things up at NORTEC 2008. Because power tools will not only be exhibited at the TRUMPF booth; visitors will be able to try them out. For visitors, professionals and testers who want to try the tools out themselves, a worktable has been integrated into the booth layout that allows them to test the power tools on all four sides without bumping into each other as they work. These tools emit no flying sparks or smoke. They all do their work unobtrusively, but effectively. Depending on the outcome sought, the tools either produce oxide-free edges, or cut or join sheet metal.

With TRUMPF’s focus on edge-finishing at this trade show, two procedures will be highlighted: deburring and bevelling. The latter is based on the steel impact principle that was developed and patented by Prof. Berthold Leibinger. The tool chips off the material evenly, resulting in oxide-free, metallically blank edges that are ready for welding in one workstep. Unlike grinding, this procedure produces no dust, fumes or gases. Depending on the material and the application, various bevellers are available: from the TKF 700 to the TKF 1100 and 1101 and even the TKF 1500.

The TKA 300 and TKA 500 deburrers can also be used to prepare welded edges. After cutting, they are also well-suited for removing burrs on steel sheets, non-ferrous metals or plastics. They can also be used to mill edges quickly and generate metallically blank visual edges or radii. If this work is to be performed on small and light sheet metal, it is best that the workpiece be firmly anchored. For this purpose, TRUMPF has adapted a workstation for the TKA 500. Small parts with dimensions of 50 x 50 mm to 300 x 300 mm and a maximum weight of 3 kg can be quickly and reliably produced in this manner.

For cutting work, TRUMPF offers both the nibbler as well as shears. Users whose task involves pulling thicker sheets toward themselves while safely controlling chip droppings and avoiding noticeable heat build-up should use an electric handheld nibbler. Equipped with a rectangular punch, the TRUMPF Nibbler N 1000 cuts sheets with thicknesses of up to 10 mm – distortion-free. It also cuts through corners, weld seams and double sheets.

Curve shears in the TRUMPF S series can cut sheet thicknesses of up to 4.5 mm without producing chips. To avoid warping, the slitting shears from the C series are the ideal solution. Users can cut rolled sheet pipes up to 2.5 mm thick of as well as C, L and U profiles; they can also cut diverse types of notches as well as make curves and inner cut-outs. With feed rates of up to 10 m/min, TRUMPF shears allow users to work very quickly. The slitting shears TRUMPF C250-0 PLUS and C200-0 PLUS Accu are equipped with an integrated chip clipper – a particularly important advantage. This feature enables the user to manually clip the chip at any point. The tools can be easily pulled out of the workpiece and accurately reinserted thanks to visible position markings on the cutter head.

Developers of TRUMPF power tools also routinely look beyond their standard responsibilities and operations. One example of this is the TSC 1 slat cleaner launched in 2006. This tool can be used to quickly and simply remove slag from the laser cutting machines. Users require just about 20 minutes to clean one standard-sized pallet of 1500 mm x 3000 mm. This tool pays for itself in just a short time because the costs compared to replacing a pallet are about 75 percent less.

TRUMPF Business Field Power Tools

Power tools for sheet metal machining have a long tradition at TRUMPF. Now based in Ditzingen, Germany, TRUMPF introduced the first motor-driven handheld shears for cutting sheet metal in 1934, laying the foundation for the company’s extensive sheet metal expertise today. As sheet metal specialist, it has continued to advance its line of professional power tools – not to mention the stationary machines for punching, forming, laser processing, and bending – setting the industry standards along the way amid rapidly changing markets. Headquartered in Grüsch, Switzerland, since 1980, and supported by a staff of 268, the TRUMPF Power Tools business field achieved sales of €78,7 million in fiscal year 2006/07. Power tools for cutting and fastening sheet metal as well as bevelling and deburring sheet edges complete today’s range of products. The handheld, easy to operate TRUMPF Power Tools are used worldwide by both industry and craftsman alike.
